IT Onboarding Troubleshooting
This document covers troubleshooting potential errors/problems you may encounter in the onboarding process. Everything ranging from laptop setup, to application failures.

Windows Installation
Autopilot/OOBE
defaultuser0 Error
When proceeding through OOBE your machine will restart at the end of Device Setup. Being taken straight to a Windows logon screen with defaultuser0 as the only login available. This error is caused by Autopilot. The device either needs to be deleted from Intune or reassigned to the new user.
- Open Intune -> Devices -> Windows -> Enrollment
- Scroll down to find Windows Autopilot -> Devices
- Search the serial number of the laptop, either delete the device from intune or select the device and assign it to a user
- On the laptop at the login screen, click
Other Userin the bottom left. Then enter your user’s login credentials - OOBE should now continue normally into Account Setup
App Installation Failure
During Account Setup, at the end you can encounter a failure related to an app installation. This could be related any possible apps, you could theoretically check by opening a command prompt session and searching through logs.
- First attempt to retry the process, there should be a button in the corner of the screen for it.
- If it is unsuccessful then continue anyway and the app should finish installing after Windows setup is complete.
Software Installation
Apps unable to install via Company Portal
Apps can encounter errors or get stuck when installing via Company Portal. (If a user doesn’t have Company Portal installed after setup, install it through Microsoft Store)
- Apps stuck in the downloading/installing phase will need to be reset. Open
Windows Settingsand navigate toInstalled apps. - Find the app
Company Portal, Click the 3 dots, thenAdvanced Options. - Scroll down and click each of the three options,
TerminateRepairReset. This will reset the company portal app. - If the errors are related to Visio/Project, see the appropraite documentation for these issues in Github.

Access to Company Resources
- Secure Boot
- Reboot computer into BIOS, open to the security tab and enable Secure Boot. Save changes and restart the machine.
- Activate Device Encryption
- Search for
Bitlockeron your machine, then clickTurn On Bitlocker - Follow the prompts and ensure you save the bitlocker key to the AzureAD/EntraID Account. Verify in Intune under the device that it’s saved.
- Continue with the default options for encryption and restart the PC at the end.
- Search for
